Green appliances are appliances that need less energy to operate, and/or use no materials that contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), global warming gases (GWGs), or other chemicals that are harmful to humans or the environment. Many of the new generation of appliances are also designed in a manner that allows the appliance to be deconstructed so that as many of the original components can be reused or recycled.
Green products are much the same as green appliances in as much as they use less energy to manufacture, contain no harmful chemicals, but are also preferably made from renewable resources.
The current trend is to rate appliances and products based on their performance when measured against the above criteria. Thus appliances that are green receive a higher number of stars than those that are not, while green products will mostly be referred to as organic or natural products.

Today, we work in air conditioned offices, drive air conditioned motor vehicles and most of us enjoy the comfort provided by some form of air conditioning system when relaxing at home.

In most cases these are expensive compressor type air conditioners that consume copious amounts of electrical energy, both expensive to our pocket, are a burden to our non-renewable energy resources. All over the world electricity costs are rising as governments grapple to meet the ever growing demand for power, and, of all our home appliances, conventional refrigerated air conditioners are one the biggest consumers of electrical energy.
Whilst our demand for summer comfort will not diminish there is a way of creating all the cooling comfort we require at a fraction of the electricity consumption of conventional air conditioning.
